amanda took her first birth-control pill ever yesterday. as she was about to put it in her mouth, I said, “welcome to a brave new world.” she gave me an odd look and swallowed her pill.
amanda: it’s weird that you referred to ‘brave new world’ because that book was what had kept me from going on the pill all of these years.
marco: why?
amanda: well, because of the whole giving-women-pills-to-keep-them-happy-and-docile thing.
marco: oh, ok… hey, have you ever actually read ‘brave new world’?
amanda: (after a brief pause) no.
