i (heart) dead white european men! (33 1/3)
the last set in my series of endless pictures from venerable new york art institions was taken at the metropolitan museum of art (the met to friends). what's most mindblowing to me about the museum is just how much of such a great variety of art they have. here's a sampler:
these are the seven deadly sins. when the guard saw me taking pictures of them he asked me what the paintings depeicted. for a second i thought he was some kindly old dude who liked talking to patrons about their interpretations of the paintings he'd been staring at for years. the confused look on his face, though, told me that he just had no idea what the paintings were showing. i thought of saying "you know that movie with brad pitt, the one with all the murders? no, not kalifornia..." but then gave him a more straighforward explanation.

wrath

vanity

lust

gluttony

envy

avarice

sloth
these were some other paintings

sculptures and statues and stuff

pottery and glassware, including a temporary cameo exhibit

arms and armor

and everything in between

wow. That was amazing.
You're getting better at this picture taking stuff.
Or maybe I just like this art better.
:)
Do you have a super duper camera or something?

thanks for the kind words. uhm, i think.
i don't have a thuper-duper camera. just photoshop, which i don't really know how to use. also, the beauty of a digital camera is that you can take hundreds of pictures and then sift through them all and find one incidentally good one. like they say, even a broken watch is right twice a day.

seriously.. maybe I just never noticed before, but these pictures are just phenomenal.
I know most were of paintings which you had no involvement in, but the angles you chose for the sculptures were incredible:

or even the fact that you chose this one from the side

Since I'm so used to seeing her from the front.
I think they're really good.
