dogs! in! costumes!

there's precious little that makes me tinkle my pants quite as much as seeing dogs in costumes. today i once again explored the upper limits of my bladder's strength by attending the 15th annual tompkins square dog run halloween parade!

strap yourselves in, kids... we're about to step through the cuteness looking-glass. this is what i saw:

superpets and their owners:

this picture took a while to take because the dogs kept running off, and when the owners brought them back, the kids would run off, and so on.

dogs dressed up like other animals:

the blue fish costume and the goldfish costume were both hand-made.

two dogs dressed like skunks? wtf?

this little spider-pug might have been the most goddamned adorable dog at the parade.

dogs dressed like people:

these dogs are trying keeping punk alive in the east village.

dogs dressed as famous people:

travis bickle

harry potter

che guevara

dogs dressed up as things:

this cupcake costume was also hand-made.

and finally, the dogs and people that didn't fit into any of the above categories:

there were two guys dressed up like pumpkins carting around a bunch of french bulldogs and french bulldog puppies who were also dressed up like pumpkins.

this "love pug"...

...had its own racing crew.

my favoritest sight at the parade, though, was this family. not only were the humans wearing costumes to match their dog...

...but the dog was wearing an awesome costume...

...which seamlessly incorporated the harness the it has to wear since the lower half of its body is paralyzed.

after all that, i started getting dizzy with the dog-sweats, and decided it was time to leave. i give myself about a week before i start pining away for next year's halloween dog parade.

Happy Halloween, Y'all!

update: Many, many thanks to superawesome cityrag (hi, buddy!) and other sites for linking here. For more dog-in-costume goodness, please be sure to check out the pictures i took at the 2006 tompkins square dog parade.

And the award for best off-the-cuff comment goes to...

i was watching tlc, or the discovery channel... one of those all-conjoined twins-all-the-time channels with goldberg and his best pal, lady j. the show we were watching was called "born without a face" and was about a toddler who has a condition that resulted in her being born with virtually no bones in her face. they're interviewing the parents about the kid, who we haven't seen yet. the parents star talking about the birth, and we're shown a picture of the kid, who is super-disturbing looking (look at your own risk). for those of you didn't look at the link, the baby literally looks like her face is made of wax, which has melted and then cut into with a hot knife. lady j took one look, screamed, and said, "god, can you imagine? it's like, 'this is what your love made.'"

who doesn't love a(n art) parade?

about a million years ago dw, cobracamanda and i went to the first annual soho art parade. the long and the short of the parade is that it celebrates the opening of all of the art galleries in the city. i realize this is well beyond a day late and several dollars short, and every other bloggeurre has posted their pictures from the parade on flickr, but i figure... hey, up yours. here's what i saw:

(p.s. somone listed in my "links" section totally slept with the guy holding the bottle in this picture. slut.)

and of course, what posting of mine would be complete without a few cute guys i saw that day...
