she's no buttercup of autumn
My best friend Amanda’s mother is “quite a character”. Besides being a bad mother (and not in the same way that Shaft is) she’s also kind of dim. She was describing someone she doesn’t like, who is from Florida. She kept derogatorily referring to this woman as a “Steel Magnolia”. When Amanda’s boyfriend asked her what she’d meant by that, Amanda’s mom not only didn’t reference the movie of the same name (which would have made sense) she said, “You know the type. She’s one of those Southern Belles who are all nice and sweet to you to your face, but as soon as they have the chance, they stab you in the back... just like a Steel Magnolia!”
