puppy videos, you guys!
last night the manpanion and i got into a discussion about puppies which lead to me looking up "lab retriever puppy" on youtube. There was the standard assortment of incredibly adorable videos of puppies all snuggled up, lazily pawing at each other, and generally being entirely too cute. What I also found was that there are loads of music videos featuring puppies. Apparently this is a thing. There are tons of people out there who take videos of the pups and set them to pop songs, people! Sometimes the music was a bit distracting, but ultimately, who cares... it's puppies! Anywho here is a random sampling of totes adorbs puppy videos set to music. Enjoy!

DOGS! IN! COSTUMES! (2007!)
Holy canoli! It’s been since July 4th since I’ve posted anything here on this dusty old blog of mine. I guess I’ve been mostly just flickring, which is generally more immediately satisfying and frankly, easier to do. However, I’d be remiss not to post pictures from the 17th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade. Once again, I braved the muddy, muddy Tompkins Square dog run to bring you, my two readers, the finest pictures of dogs wearing Halloween costumes I could be bothered to take. I've uploaded all the pictures to my flickr page, so if you want to see them all, click here. Otherwise, enjoy these highlights:
People who dressed up with their dogs:

lobster dog and female fisherman

lucille ball and desi arnaz dog

sm/bondage dog (hello, people who googled the phrase "sm/bondage dog". i think this is what you were looking for.)

football player dog. i love it when pet costumes have those little arms. it kind of makes me squeal.

this picture of the woman who made an exterminator (exterminatrix?) costume, she made her dog a millipede costume! ridiculous.

love it.
there were dogs dressed up as fictional characters:

E.T./Elliott dog

yoda dog

hannibal lecter/silence of the lambs dog
dogs dressed like famous people:

elvis dog with stage

amy doghouse and pete doggerty. (amy winehouse and pete dougherty dogs, obvs.)

frida kahlo dog
dogs dressed as people:

grandma dog

pugs in wigs (in space)

space dogs
dogs dressed as... things and stuff:

dachs boot dachshund

pumpkin pug

swiss army knife dog

iphone dog

taco dog
and probably my most favoritest type of pet costume: dogs dressed up like other animals:

little rabbit dog

shark dog

turkey dog

peacock pug
and the most awesome costume idea for a dog:

dog dressed up like another dog!
there's a bunch more pictures from the east village dog parade here on my flickr. as an added bonus, you can also find pictures from the carl schurz dog parade there as well.

so this dog walks into a bar...
remeber those "what's gross/what's grosser than gross" jokes that were bigger than snap-bracelets in the 80's? the other day, dr. regina phalange, her beau kirby and i saw the thematic oppostite of that: what's cute/what's cuter than cute. we were at east village biergarten zum schneider when dr. phalange noted that there was a french bulldog. at the bar.

(cute.)
then his owner came in and started feeding him something that looked like slices of butter or pieces of cheese. (it may well have been something else, but i find the notion of giving a dog slices of butter to be very charming.)

(cuter than cute.)
the owner then left for a minute and the pup was so tuckered out he lay down across two bar-stools.

(cuter than cuter than cute!)
more pictures of the dog here.

dogs! in! costumes!
there's precious little that makes me tinkle my pants quite as much as seeing dogs in costumes. today i once again explored the upper limits of my bladder's strength by attending the 15th annual tompkins square dog run halloween parade!

strap yourselves in, kids... we're about to step through the cuteness looking-glass. this is what i saw:
superpets and their owners:

this picture took a while to take because the dogs kept running off, and when the owners brought them back, the kids would run off, and so on.
dogs dressed up like other animals:

the blue fish costume and the goldfish costume were both hand-made.

two dogs dressed like skunks? wtf?

this little spider-pug might have been the most goddamned adorable dog at the parade.
dogs dressed like people:

these dogs are trying keeping punk alive in the east village.

dogs dressed as famous people:

travis bickle

harry potter

che guevara
dogs dressed up as things:

this cupcake costume was also hand-made.
and finally, the dogs and people that didn't fit into any of the above categories:

there were two guys dressed up like pumpkins carting around a bunch of french bulldogs and french bulldog puppies who were also dressed up like pumpkins.

this "love pug"...

...had its own racing crew.

my favoritest sight at the parade, though, was this family. not only were the humans wearing costumes to match their dog...

...but the dog was wearing an awesome costume...

...which seamlessly incorporated the harness the it has to wear since the lower half of its body is paralyzed.
after all that, i started getting dizzy with the dog-sweats, and decided it was time to leave. i give myself about a week before i start pining away for next year's halloween dog parade.
Happy Halloween, Y'all!
update: Many, many thanks to superawesome cityrag (hi, buddy!) and other sites for linking here. For more dog-in-costume goodness, please be sure to check out the pictures i took at the 2006 tompkins square dog parade.

dog daze...
i realize it's almost christmas, but i never got around to posting these halloween pictures and i want to do it now before it's '05. (stay tuned for thanksgiving and christmas pictures next may!) anyways, i present you with pictures of dogs in costume at the thompinks square park halloween dog... thing.

i really thought these hobbit dogs were pretty great:

this last dog wasn't in costume, but it did chase it's tail for like, forever. and that's gotta be worth something.
